Angelina Jolie Thanks Lampedusa for Hosting Refugees Posted: 19 Jun 2011 08:15 PM PDT Angelina Jolie visits the Italian island of Lampedusa on Sunday (June 19). The 36-year-old actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador thanked residents for hosting more than 40,000 refugees who have been fleeing the unrest and violence in north Africa. Angelina traveled from Malta, where she made a stop at detention facilities, which held people waiting for their asylum requests to be processed. “Malta has saved many lives, but it is the daily conditions on the ground that are of most concern. We’ve spoken about our shared concerns about making sure asylum claims are processed as quickly as possible so no one is sitting in a prison-like situation and waiting on a decision about their status,” Angelina said. “They are not asking to go to any particular country, they just want to find safety to work and to have freedom,” she added. On Friday, Angelina was in Turkey where she met with refugees at a camp near the border with Syria.

'Green Lantern' Tops Box Office Posted: 19 Jun 2011 09:50 AM PDT Green Lantern took the top spot at this weekend’s box office, bringing in $53 million in ticket sales. Second place went to Super 8, which had a solid second week with $20.5 million. Third place went to the Jim Carrey film Mr. Popper’s Penguins, with $18 million, followed by X-Men: First Class with $11.5 million. Rounding out the top five was The Hangover Part II, which surpassed the original Hangover’s income at the box office this weekend! FYI: Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris (starring Rachel McAdams and Owen Wilson) took in $5.1 million in limited release and will likely pass both Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Match Point’s box office sales.
